Last fall I got so busy that something had to give and unfortunately this blog was it, oops. 🙁 I love the fact that I’m busy and people are liking what I’m doing but sometimes it gets too much. So this year I’m not going to take quite as many sessions in the hopes of a little more balance in my family’s life. So, book early please!!!! I actually only have a couple of weekends left for weddings for the entire year!
Speaking of my family, many of you don’t even know who I am so I thought I’d share a little bit. I am a wife to an amazing man and the mother to two of the cutest little boys in the world. You can see for yourself in the photo below 🙂 I am an import to Winger (pretty sure I’ll be known as Nathan Johnson’s wife for the rest of my life) which I found really hard for a couple of years. Nothing against these little towns around here, I’m from a very small town but being the import is HARD! Alice, my 80+ year old neighbor told me I needed to give it three years before I could really decide if I liked it or not – such great advice. This is one of the reasons that this little photography business started and makes me feel so blessed. I know so many people around here because they’ve come for photos and I love it.
A lot of people ask me if I went to school for photography, the answer is nope. I did take some photography classes in high school and college (Go BEAVERS!) though. I actually did my very first wedding just out of high school – and on film! I can’t believe I had the guts to do that – I guess I was young and naive enough to not think it was that big of a deal. I was still shooting film in college and was actually pretty late to get in the digital game – I just loved going to the dark room and developing my own photos. I finally switched and have never looked back. I have a communications degree with an emphasis in journalism. I worked at a couple of newspapers right out of college but was working as a graphic designer before I had my kiddos. I never really set out to have a photography business. I started taking pics of my nieces and nephews and it went from there. I made a fb page one day without a lot of thought (hence Erin J. Johnson Photography and not something even a little bit creative) and it slowly formed into a little business. It’s been such a blessing to us how this business has grown – I’ve never even given out a business card!!!! Thank all of you for sharing my name… I truly appreciate it more than you know.
Well, now you know how it all started. I’m hoping to write more on the blog this year and not just show photo after photo and maybe share a little bit more about my life and the journey that photography has taken me on. We’ll see if it happens or not, I’m not very good at keeping resolutions and this kind of feels like that. Here’s hoping!
